The City of San Jose announced on Apr. 23 that construction is beginning for the Senter Road Safety Improvements Earmark Project, with a groundbreaking event scheduled for April 24 at the northeast corner of Senter Road and Balfour Drive.
This project aims to enhance safety and accessibility along a busy corridor, making it more welcoming for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users. The improvements are funded by a $10 million earmark secured in 2022 by State Assemblymember Ash Kalra.
Key features of the project include upgrading temporary plastic bikeway delineators to concrete barriers, adding new lighting, planting trees, and improving transit stops. City leaders such as Councilmember Bien Doan from District 7, John Ristow (Director of Transportation), Matthew Loesch (Director of Public Works), and community resident Orlana Mejia are expected to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony.
The City of San Jose serves neighborhoods across the Santa Clara Valley area and maintains several historical districts according to its historical context page.
