The Silicon Valley Leadership Group announced on May 1 the formation of its Agentic AI Task Force, a new cross-sector initiative under its Center of Expertise on Technology and Innovation.
The task force aims to address the development and deployment of autonomous artificial intelligence systems that can plan, decide, and act. As these technologies expand beyond content generation into business operations and decision-making processes, they currently operate without clear regulatory guidance. The initiative seeks to create industry-driven governance frameworks to guide the evolution of these systems while maintaining California’s leadership in technological innovation.
SVLG said it will use direct member engagement to support research, encourage market leadership, and bring together key stakeholders from both industry and policy sectors. This approach is intended to align technical progress with policy understanding and enterprise adoption.
“California has always defined the next frontier of innovation, and Agentic AI is no exception,” said SVLG CEO Ahmad Thomas. “These systems will reshape how businesses operate, how decisions get made, and how value is created across every sector of our innovation economy. By bringing industry and policymakers together early, SVLG’s Agentic AI Task Force is ensuring California sets the standard for thoughtful deployment and global competitiveness.”
Ziyang Fan, Senior Vice President of Technology & Innovation at SVLG and Executive Director of the Institute for California AI Policy (ICAP), said: “Agentic AI marks a fundamental shift in what this technology can achieve, making it critical for the Golden State to lead in this moment. This Task Force is focused on educating stakeholders, clearing the path for responsible deployment, tackling the real-world barriers slowing adoption, and ensuring California sets the global agenda on Agentic AI.”
According to SVLG’s announcement, this initiative forms part of its Future Forward Agenda—a multi-year effort aimed at strengthening regional innovation ecosystems as well as driving long-term economic growth throughout Silicon Valley.
